The Taruheru Freezing Works Monument - Plaque
Nelson Brothers commenced the region's first meat processing on this site 15 November 1889.
These works closed in 1923 because of river silting and the opening of further works at Kaiti, Tokomaru Bay, Waipaoa and Hicks Bay, between 1896 and 1921
