DFLE Gisborne - Jo & Ray - Event Video performance

It is no coincidence that my mother, Joyce, loved to dance. She was also a tireless volunteer for Gisborne Plunket over many decades, so when the opportunity arose for me to learn and dance an Argentinian tango in order to raise money for an organisation which promotes the health and wellbeing of Tairawhiti kids, the synchronicity was irresistible.
I too grew up in Gisborne (and as a child loved dancing in the annual ‘Comps’). After graduating from Auckland University, I lived for years at a stretch in Jakarta, New York, Canberra, Singapore and Wellington - mothering, writing, publishing and teaching. Four years ago, and after 48 years away, I decided to ‘come home’ and feel very lucky that two of my daughters and three grandchildren have done the same. My other daughter, Monique, lives in Seville with her Spanish husband Miguel, and their two children, Siana (7) and Amaro (5).
Kia Ora, I’m Ray Teutenberg, owner of Verve Café.
Tango music’s always been a passion of mine and a planned Argentine adventure is sadly not now an option, so when approached to dance in DFLE it seemed perfect timing.
It’s challenging but with fabulous partner Jo, and Deane and his wife Rayne patiently teaching us, it’s been tremendous fun.
